Tim Niblock of the University of Exeter discusses recent and shifting economic relations between the Gulf and Southeast Asia, and Jacqueline Armijo and Lina Kassen of Qatar University relatedly address the social and cultural implications of increased economic activity between China and the Gulf. University of Michigan doctoral candidate Ismail Fajrie Alatas, in a more anthropological work, looks at the history of a Hadrami family as it has moved between Yemen, Java, and Abu Dhabi over the past century.
